Z Nation the quirky action horror show that has taken a dark comedy to a new level...

"Z Nation" has taken a dark comedy to a new level with the liberty bell taking down hordes of Zombies, and baby zombies eating people. This show has hit a much need niche for those out there who love gore and have a wicked sense of humor. It’s first season came out last year on the Syfy channel. The premise for the show may sound a bit over done, but don’t let that fool you into not enjoying it in all it’s low budget glory. They did an amazing job with what they had to work with for season one and every moment was extremely entertaining.

On season two however they seamed to lose a little something in episodes one through six. Between them killing off Mack (Michael Welch) and turning Cassandra (Pisay Pao) into a half zombie the group dynamic was just thrown way off. They tried to add in a replacement for Mack with Vasquez, but it just didn’t fill the hole they had hoped it would. Especially with Citizen Z (DJ Qualls) barley in any of these episodes the show has just lost it’s special something. Don’t get me wrong I still have hope. Considering how magnificent the first season was and that they have still held on to their strange style they can still turn it all around.

And that’s exactly what they did in episode seven "Down The Mississippi". The episode aired October 23, 2015 with a hilarious homage to westerns. The episode spent the hour poking fun at red necks. So right form the begging you know it’s going to be great.

The group comes to a boat that they planed to use to cross the Mississippi river. As they cross they come across Skeezy (Doug Dawson) and Sketchy (Mark Carr) form season one. They get distracted by their crazy stories and get over run by a zombie jam separating 10k (Nat Zang) from the group. Doc (Russell Hodgkinson) refuses to leave him behind, but Murphy (Keith Allan) partly still pissed about10k giving Cassandra mercy and partly determined to save the human race convinces the others to stay on track with the mission. This moment really reminds you just how truly loyal Doc is and how messed up Murphy is.

Meanwhile 10k is stuck traveling with Skeezy and Sketchy. Leading him down a path of crazy to yet another messed up cult like town. This time the town uses travelers that they capture and turn into zombies as their hard labor and they are always drunk on moonshine. It’s basically full on red neck riviera but this time with zombies.

Skeezy and Skectchy are basically the leading comedy act of this whole episode. They flabbergast the whole town in to letting them go using bad “Go America” speeches. They then are free to make their way back to the group. Where they are reunited all thanks to good old dependable Doc and his determination. The episode did send out several good chuckles and had great character development for both Doc and 10k but also Murphy. I still think they need to bring Citizen z back into the picture more, but overall I think this episode gave me back my faith in the show as a whole.

Z Nation over all gets a 8/10

This episode gets a 7/10
